Jorge M. Perez is an award-winning journalist and the author of the novels Flight of the Sparrow (winner of the International Latino Book Award) and The Last Camel (winner of the Macondo Writers' Prize). He is also the author of the nonfiction book, Against All Odds: The Story of an Impossible Dream, about his family's struggle to immigrate to the United States from Mexico. He has written for publications that include "The New York Times", "The Wall Street Journal", "The Washington Post", "The Los Angeles Times", "El Diario La Prensa", "El Universal", "Abril" and "Cosas del Mundo" among others
He has worked as a reporter for more than twenty years in Central America, Mexico, Venezuela, Spain and Mexico, reporting on stories about immigration, drug trafficking, organized crime and political corruption.
